Why the pass matters
The Jvari Pass is the single high point on the Georgian Military Highway between Gudauri and Kazbegi. When it closes for avalanche control or heavy snow, it is the only road — there is no detour to Gergeti.
How we watch it
In winter we track the Roads Department bulletins and talk to drivers already on the mountain each morning. If a closure is likely, we hold departures in Gudauri rather than commit to the climb.
